Obituary for Anna (Georgopoulos) Bletsis

Anna (Georgopoulos) Bletsis, age 82, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. Bletsis with whom she enjoyed 44 years of marriage until his passing in 2009.

She was born in Skoura, Greece on November 15, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Peter and Petrula (Keriazes) Georgopoulos.

Anna was educated in her hometown of Skoura and received nurse training in Sparta, working in the hospital’s maternity ward. She was deeply religious and a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut. An excellent cook, she was known for her amazing Greek pastries. For 50 years, she hosted Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter dinners. While her grandsons were students at the Hellenic American Academy, she volunteered her time at the school. Later, she enjoyed taking classes and spending time with friends at the Dracut Senior Center. In her later years, Anna’s sight declined, and she was thankful to her friends who helped her get to coffee hour at the Assumption. The beauty of the world remained in her heart, with or without her sight. The focus of Anna’s life was her family, especially proud of her grandsons who were her greatest loves. She was patient, kind, with a genuine heart, and a love for all people. She was affectionally known as YiaYia to all.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to those that helped care for Anna. They are grateful for the home health aides who provided professional care with compassion and love over the past 3 years and became a part of their family.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Demetra and Kenneth Gys of Dracut, and Petrula and Matthew Laudato of Brighton; her three grandsons, Andrew Charles Gys and his girlfriend Meghan (Meggie) Wells of Dracut, Evan Christopher Gys and his girlfriend Nicole Smith of Pepperell, and Carmine Costas Laudato of Brighton; her god-daughter, Athie Blake with whom she had a special relationship; her sister, Ethel Theos of Tarpon Springs, FL; her sisters-in-law, Demetra Georgopoulos of Skoura, Greece and Pandy Bletsis of St. Petersburg, FL; her brother-in-law, Demetrios Velmahos of Tripi, Greece, and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Stelios Georgopoulos, and Sofia Velmahos; and her in-laws, George Theos, Stella Weyandt, Mary Barbas, Georgia Shadan, Patra Varellan, and Jimmie Bletsis.
