Obituary for Christina S. Mitchell (Manis)

Christina S. (Manis) Mitchell, age 74, a resident of Tyngsboro, passed away at Boston Medical Center on Saturday, April 23, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Mitchell with whom she enjoyed 43 years of marriage until his passing in 2014.

She was born in the Bronx, New York on August 6, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Michael and Stella (Kelesakos) Manis.

Christina grew up in New York and graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx. For many years, she operated a day care out of her home. Christina was a person of strong faith. She was a founding member of The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut, where she was an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was proud of her Greek heritage and loved Greek music. She always enjoyed attending the Church Greek festivals. York Beach, ME was one of her favorite spots. She adored shopping and dining out. Christina was a generous and spirited person; she would give you the shirt off her back. Most of all, she cherished her family and was happiest surrounded by her loved ones.

Christina will be deeply missed by her three children, Karen Gouveia and her husband David of Tyngsboro, Michael Mitchell of Salisbury, and Nina Mitchell and her fiancé Paulo Santos of Danvers; her grandson, Nicholas Gouveia; her sister-in-law, Carol Pomphret; and several close cousins. In addition to her loving husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Christos Manis and her best friend, Margaret Lacasse.

Friends and family may call at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on Wednesday, April 27th from 4-8 pm. Her Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Thursday at 9 am followed by her Funeral Service at 10 am in The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1160 Mammoth Road, Dracut. Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1160 Mammoth Road, Dracut, MA 01826.
