Obituary for Christina Pournaras (Xigoros)

Christina Pournaras of Lowell passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Kamara, Greece in 1939 to Efstathios and Yiannoula (Tanglis) Xigoros. She immigrated to America where she married her husband Nicholas Pournaras and raised 3 children. She was a woman of few words that took pride in her work and her family, and it showed throughout her life. She began her career as a seamstress, sold ice-cream and opened a pizza restaurant where she worked tirelessly to create a better life for her family. She loved to garden and the beauty of what she was able to grow, year after year, was reflective of her soul. She will be remembered for her selfless nature, hard work and the light that lit up in her eyes when she was with the ones she loved most.

She is predeceased by her parents, Efstathios and Yiannoula Xigoros, along with her stepmother, Evgenia Xigoros. She is also predeceased by her husband; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Pournaras; and her siblings, Georgia Hantzis, Fotios Xigoros, John Xigoros, and Athanasios Xigoros. She is survived by her children, Kathy Chiola and her husband David, Tony Pournaras, and Helen Pournaras; as well as her beautiful grandchildren, Christa, Christina, Nicholas, Alexandria, Peter, and Nikoletta; her loving sister, Vasiliki Sotirakos and her husband Costas; her brother, Dimitrios Xigoros and his wife Fotula of Greece; her sister-in-law, Ekaterini Xigoros; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by everyone, eternally loved, and forever in our hearts and mind.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24th from 9am to 10am at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1160 Mammoth Rd, Dracut. Her Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 10am. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
