Obituary for Doris A. Bradley (Vanderspurt)

Doris A. (Vanderspurt) Bradley, age 82, a lifelong resident of Dracut, passed away at Sunny Acres Rehab & Nursing Home on June 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard L. Bradley, with whom she enjoyed 47 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2009.

She was born in Lowell on April 2, 1941, and was a daughter of the late Louis and Anna (DeVist) Vanderspurt.

Doris was educated at St. Michael’s School in Lowell and graduated from Dracut High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Lowell State Teacher’s College, currently UMASS Lowell. Over the years, Doris was employed as a long-term substitute teacher in the Dracut school system, Raytheon and LRTA. Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she cherished her time spent with her sons and grandchildren. She loved to host holiday parties at her home, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas and she was well-known for her famous meatballs as well as her delicious apple pie. Doris also loved spending time at their home on Cape Cod and shared her love of animals with her family.

Doris is survived by her five sons and their families; Rick Bradley of Dracut, Steve Bradley and his wife, Suzanne of Centerville on Cape Cod, Dave Bradley and his wife, Angela of Dracut, Mike Bradley and his wife, Kelly of Dracut and Robert Bradley and his partner, Christine Donald of Chelmsford. She also leaves seven grandchildren; Breanna Wright, Meghan Bradley, Alexis Bradley, Victoria Bradley, Stephanie Bradley, Madison Bradley, Jack Bradley and Zachary Mayo and many nieces and nephews. Sadly, she was pre-deceased by her in-laws, Marie and Bud Bradley, Francis R. Bradley, Jr. and his wife, Barbara and Hank and Dot Collins.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 14th from 4pm to 7pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at St. Michael Parish, 543 Bridge Street, LOWELL. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, 130 North Lowell Street, METHUEN. Memorial donations in Doris’ name may be made to Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center, Attn: Philanthropy Dept., 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854.
