Obituary for Ester C. Bettencourt
Ester C. Bettencourt, age 89, a resident of Dracut, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Saturday, March 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Silva with whom she enjoyed many years of marriage.
She was born in Graciosa, Portugal on July 21, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Francisco Bettencourt and Rosa Correia Silva. Ester grew up in Portugal and was one of nine children born to her parents. She and Manuel immigrated to the United States in 1974 with their two daughters.
Ester had a beautiful soft heart. She always appreciated what she had and worked hard to give her children everything she could. She was a woman of faith, attended church when she could, and recited the rosary daily. Ester was a talented embroiderer and enjoyed sewing and doing crochet. She was blessed with a green thumb; her flower and vegetable garden bloomed each year better than the last. She enjoyed playing dominos, going out to eat, sipping a cup of tea, and having great conversation with her family. Above all, Ester cherished the time she spent with her daughters.
Ester is survived by her daughters, Maria Verissimo and her husband Alziro, and Rosa Camacho and her husband Charles; her siblings, Maria Picanço, Gertrudes Silva, and Jose Bettencourt; her grandson, Mario Verissimo and his fiancé Alyssa Jean, and her first great grandchild who will be arriving in May. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ester is predeceased by her two infant children, Gualberto and Rosa Maria; and five siblings, Carolina Bettencourt, Manuel Bettencourt, Liduina Espinola, Fransico Bettencourt, and Juvenal Bettencourt.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 9th from 4pm to 7pm at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at Saint Anthony Parish, 893 Central St., Lowell. KINDLY GATHER AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Saint Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
