Obituary for Francis P. "Frankie" Murray

Francis P. “Frankie” Murray, age 81, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away at Tufts Medical Center on Saturday, February 12, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Irene (Gearin) Murray with whom he enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

He was born in Boston on June 27, 1940 and was the son of the late Francis J. and Violet (Russell) Murray.

Frankie proudly served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He later worked in the maintenance department for the University of Lowell for many years. A dedicated sports fan, he loved the Boston teams, watching Golden Gloves boxing, and horse racing at Rockingham Park. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, time at the beach, especially Ogunquit beach, boogie boarding, and traveling. He had wonderful memories of vacations with his family and grandkids to Disney World and Aruba, and visits to Canobie Lake Park. More than anything, he loved being “Papa” and adored his grandkids.

In addition to his loving wife, Frankie is survived by his children, Cheryl Gordon and her husband Mark of Dracut, Michael Murray of Orange, Denise Gracia and her husband Jose of Windham, NH, Pamela Wilkie and her husband Michael of Nashua, NH, James Bourdelais and his wife Jackie of Marlboro, Karen Hannan of Lowell, Richard Bourdelais of Boston, and Cynthia Desjardins and her husband Mark of Haverhill; his 20 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Carol Gookin of Nashua, NH, and Kathleen Tanguay and her husband Andre of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is sadly predeceased by his grandson and best friend, Tommy Murray whom he had an extremely close relationship with; his brothers-in-law Daniel Gookin, and James Gearin; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Dowd.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 18th from 3pm to 7pm at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. A prayer service will be held at 6:30pm. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frankie’s honor to the Shriners Hospitals for Children at www.shrinerschildrens.org.
