Obituary for Irene Lillian Mullin (Bechard)

Irene Lillian (Bechard) Mullin, age 95, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William James Mullin, Jr. with whom she celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary before his passing in 2009.

She was born in Tyngsboro on September 25, 1927, the daughter of the late Louis T. and Lillian M. (Baron) Bechard. She was a graduate of the Winslow School in Tyngsboro and Lowell High School where she was a proud Girl Officer. Following graduation, she worked as a window designer and photograph colorist. After marriage she became a wonderful homemaker raising five children of whom she was most proud. She loved to cook and bake and she made an outstanding spaghetti sauce and brownies. She was an active parishioner of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Parish as a member of the Sodality, Master Teacher and CCD Confirmation coordinator. She also loved working as a designer at Colonial Florist in Dracut for many years. She was active in the Dracut Senior Citizens. In her later years she loved to frequent various restaurants and her weekly trips to Encore.

Irene is survived by her five children: W. Spencer Mullin and Gary Bramble of Chelmsford, Colleen Mullin of Dracut, Douglas Mullin of Salem, NH, Stephen Mullin (Nancy) of Tyngsboro, and Kevin Mullin (her caretaker and copilot) of Dracut; her grandchildren: Stephen C. Mullin (Jenna), Brian D. McInerney, Meghann Marvin (Jeff), Ryan Mullin (Lynn), Christopher Mullin (Kara), Katie DeRoche (Phil), Jennifer Meininger (Jeff), Samantha Mullin, Timothy Mullin (Allison) and Nicholas Runowicz; her 13 great grandchildren; her special nieces Dottie Logan of North Haven, CT and Melanie Miller (goddaughter) of Branford, CT; her 5 great nieces and nephews (Patrick Logan godson), her Berard cousins (Philip Berard godson) and many friends.

Sadly, Irene was predeceased by her grandson Jake Mullin, her daughter-in-law Robin (Lowe) Mullin, her brother Robert Bechard, her sister Pauline May and her brother-in-law Paul May.

Irene leaves behind her most precious beloved inseparable cat, Chicken (Minnels).

It being her wish, there will be no visitation. Funeral service and interment were held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s memory to the Dracut Senior Center or charity of choice.
