Obituary for James Christos Themelis

James Christos Themelis, age 73, a resident of Haverhill, MA, passed away at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Florida on Monday, March 28, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Judith A. Themelis with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

James is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Elainy Star Bissonnette and husband Joel, and Alethea Sofia Beck. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Doulames Themelis and the late Christos J. Themelis; his brother, Stephen Themelis and wife, Joyce, and brother, Byron Themelis. He also had five wonderful grandchildren and many nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.

James was raised in Lowell most of his life. He attended Lowell High School until his junior year, then moved to Pepperell, MA finishing his senior year at N.M.R.H.S. while playing football with his varsity team. Following the completion of high school, James was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a Combat Vietnam Veteran, a point man of the 101st Airborne, Screaming Eagles Division. Here he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and many other commendations. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the family business, Middlesex Gas Company as a journeyman gas fitter.

James loved spending time at their family beach house in Salisbury, MA, growing up there as a kid and then raising his family there as well. He loved showing all his kids and grandchildren how to bodysurf on a wave. When he wasn’t spending all of his time with his family and friends, his passion for music is where he would be. Playing the guitar, harmonica, and the keyboard, teaching and showing his kids and grandchildren his love for music. James had a passion for his football team, the New England Patriots. He was glued to the T.V. with his Patriots gear on, ready for the game. James’ love for his family and friends will be forever in our hearts. He will never be forgotten.
