Joan Frances (Desimas) Bernier, 64, of Dracut, MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday August 18th, 2023 after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Wayne R. Bernier, with whom she shared 43 years of marriage.
She was born to John and Claire (Mullen) Desimas in Lowell, MA on May 21st, 1959. She graduated from Dracut Senior High School in 1977.
Joanie started in the workforce at Raytheon in Andover after which she held various positions within the healthcare field before starting at Saints Medical Center in the endoscopy unit as a unit coordinator and patient care tech. She was then asked to join the team at the Northeast Endoscopy Center when they opened in 2007 where she has served as office manager and administrative assistant for the last 16 years.
Besides her husband Wayne, she is survived by her children and their spouses; Holly and Timothy Logan, Michael and Tracy Bernier, and Melissa and Vincent Barber, her grandchildren; Dayna and Tayla Logan, Nathan and Brianna Bernier, her siblings; Mary Claire and Farrell O’Brien, Barbarann LaCourse, and John and Shelley Desimas as well as many extended family members, nieces and nephews, and close friends.
Joanie’s most prized possession was her family and there was nothing she loved more than spending time chatting around her kitchen table, taking family selfies, and two-handed hugs. She enjoyed drives to the beach, trips to Florida to visit family, and most recently going for rides with Wayne on their electric bikes. She will be remembered for her loyalty to her family and friends, her work ethic, and her unwavering selflessness.
Joanie’s family would like to extend their sincerest thank you to Lowell General Hospital, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, and LGH Cancer Center for all of the wonderful care they provided her with over the last 5 years.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd from 4pm to 8pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 95 Lakeview Ave., Tyngsboro. Interment will be held privately.
