Obituary for Joseph "Norman" Raymond

Joseph “Norman” Raymond, age 87, a resident of Dracut and formerly of Enfield, CT, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, December 26, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Charleen A. (Landry) Raymond with whom he enjoyed 58 years of marriage.

He was born in Daigle, ME on March 22, 1935 and was the son of the late Albert and Marie (Caron) Raymond.
Norman left high school early to help run the family farm after his father lost his sight. He continued his education and received his GED to complete his high school career. In 1958, at the age of 23, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 503rd Engineer Company in Frankfurt, Germany as a truck driver, tractor, scraper operator, and commanders’ driver. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

Norman took a job as a machinist and began his career at Fraser Paper Company in Madawaska, Maine. He married the love of his life, Charleen (Landry), on July 4, 1964. They moved to Connecticut and Norman began work as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney in West Hartford, CT. He would later work at Mal Tool, Inc. in Manchester, CT and end his career, after many years, at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, CT. Norman was proud of his work as a machinist and his work on components of NASA space suits. He retired in 2000.

Norman loved wide open spaces and spending time outdoors. His passion was hunting and fishing - a trait he passed on to his grandchildren along with playing cards. He also enjoyed gardening, taking care of his lawn, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a man of many trades (including carpentry, plumbing, electrical and construction) and he could build or fix just about anything.

In addition to his loving wife, Norman is survived by his 2 children, Lisa Brouillette and her husband David of Dracut, and Andrew Raymond and his wife Kelley of Pelham, NH; and his 7 grandchildren, Kyle Brouillette, Hunter Brouillette, Gage Brouillette and his fiancée Samantha Harmon, Haley Brouillette, Alyssa Johnson and her husband Nick, Erin Paradis and her fiancé Alex Deacon, and Matthew Raymond. He leaves behind his only brother, Lucien, many nieces, nephews, and friends who enjoyed hunting and fishing as much as he did.

Along with his parents he is predeceased by his brother, Jack Raymond; his sisters, Mae (Raymond) Drake, Rinette (Raymond) Labbe, and Yvette (Raymond) Picard.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd from 4pm to 7pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00am at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 95 Lakeview Ave., TYNGSBORO. Interment will be private. The family would also like to thank the staff at Northwood Nursing Home for the care and compassion they showed Norman during his last final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norman’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
