Obituary for Leonard George Marcotte

On Saturday March 4, 2023, Leonard George Marcotte, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully, he was 88 years old. Len was born on November, 12, 1934 in Auburn, Maine, the son of Gerard and Rita Marcotte. After Graduating Edward Little High School in 1952, then he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force attended flight school in Texas and was stationed in South Korea during the Korean War Conflict.

Upon returning from the Korean War he enrolled and attended Franklin Tech. in Boston then transferred to Worcester Polytechnical Institute per recommendation of his professors. In 1958 Len married Rolande S. Rouillard of Lewiston, Maine. Len graduated from WPI in 1960 and took his first job in Waltham, MA at Raytheon. The couple bought their first home in Hudson, MA. After several years in Hudson, they moved to Westborough, MA. and raised the family and participated in many of the capacities of St. Lukes Church (Lector and CCD Board) and several other local town groups.

Len was very fond of sports and he played them very competitively. He was a member of the Westboro Tennis Club, golfing (as much as he could), basketball, softball, and also winter sports of skiing and pond hockey. He not only played sports, but enjoyed the enthusiasm of watching and attending sporting events. He was an outstanding teacher and mentor, in sports and outside activities whether involved with his own children or grandchildren.

In 1975 Len took a new position at C&W Fabricators in Gardiner, MA from leaving Morgan Construction in Worcester. He began as the General Manager of C&W and then later on became the president where he retired in 1997. He was very dedicated to the success of C&W, not only from a company perspective, but from the employee engagement as well. The company had grown in multiple levels when he eventually retired.

With great appreciation of being in Maine with the family, he enjoyed every Summer in Harpswell, and winter vacations skiing at Sugarloaf, Mt. Abram, and Sunday River. Summers in Harpswell were magically special with the Rouillard in-laws and the surrounding neighborhood families. Many wonderful Marcotte memories, (boating, swimming, and summer gatherings), were created in Harpswell and Orr’s Island, where the couple moved to after Len’s retirement.

As a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather he was passionate about the raising and caring of the family. He looked forward to reasons for hosting gatherings and vacation times spent together, especially the Holidays and summer vacations. In later years, Len and Rolande enjoyed wintering in Vero Beach and Hutchinson Island, FL. The couple would gain true friends wherever they lived and traveled to. He really enjoyed the Florida lifestyle, social activities, and looked forward to it from October to April in the later years. At gatherings, he loved to play the spoons in the traditional way, and play cribbage whenever he could.

Len will be missed by his wife Rolande (of 64 years), and children William and his wife Constance who reside in Dracut, MA., Renee Williams of Salem, MA., six grandchildren Chris, Shannon, Joe, Nicole, Ben, and Elizabeth. Len is survived by his brother Raymond and sister Anita of Lewiston, ME. Len was preceded in death by his daughter Sonia, and his three siblings, Dora, Lawrence, Armand, and grandson Dennis.

Len’s visitation will be held on Friday, March 10th from 8am to 9am at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. His Funeral Mass will follow at 10 o’clock at St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler Rd., Dracut. Interment will take place at a later date in Lewiston, ME at St. Peters Cemetery.
