Obituary for Mary Ann Lloyd (Smith)

Mary Ann (Smith) Lloyd, age 82, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Friday, August 26, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John S. Lloyd who passed away in 2003.

Mary Ann was born on Governors Island, New York City, New York on July 25,1940 and was the daughter of the late Ray C. and Selma F. (Weyland) Smith.

Mary’s family moved to Lowell when she was just 6 years old and soon after settled in Dracut. She attended Dracut Schools and graduated from Dracut High School in 1957.

She was a member of Christ Church United in Dracut and was active in the Loaves of Love group at the church where she made many wonderful new friends.

Mary Ann married her one and only true love, John, in 1958 and went on to have seven children together. One of her greatest blessings was being able to stay home to raise her family. Mary Ann not only raised her 7 children, but also provided loving daycare for many of her grandchildren. She cherished hosting everyone on Christmas Eve and serving her famous chicken pot pie and spaghetti or potato salad.

Mary Ann was very self-sufficient and strong. She was able to do “anything a man could do” and was known as a real MacGyver to her family. She also loved doing jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, crocheting and reading.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Jack Lloyd and his wife Eileen of Nashua and their 4 children Lauren, Kerry, Kristina & Kyle. Pat Roy and her husband Bob of Dracut and their 3 children Kim, Bobby and Cody. Mark Lloyd and his partner Holly McManus of Dracut and his children Mark and Cassie. Linda Symonds and her husband Bill of East Granby, CT, and her children Stephanie & Amy. Donna Harding and her husband Ken of Dracut and their children Kelsey, Brett, Madison & Chase. Debi Lloyd and her fiancé Ed Cuoco of Pepperell and her children Ryan & Lexi. Leanne Thorne and her husband Bobby of Dracut and their children Tori, Isaiah & Chris. Mary Ann was lovingly known as “Nopachop” to all her grandchildren. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, Everett & Hannah Burton, Jordan & Aydrian Gagne, Graysen Gagne, Ryder & Carter Roy and Oliver Lloyd, as well as her siblings, Ellen Carpentier and Dick Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings, Atta Bourgeois, Guy Smith, Selma Lloyd and Ray Smith.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10am at Christ Church United, 10 Arlington St., Dracut. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell.
