Obituary for Richard R Gorton

Richard R. Gorton, age 70, lovingly known as Dick, Grampa G and Uncle Dick. He was a lifetime resident of Dracut, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Janes) Gorton with whom he enjoyed 48 years of marriage.

He was born in Lowell on September 11, 1951 and was the son of the late Robert and Cecile (Dumont) Gorton.
Dick was a graduate of Keith Academy and got his degree from Lowell Tech. He worked for many years in sales in the insurance industry.

Dick was an avid reader and would often be found with a book in hand. He enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, playing golf, and spending time at the beach. Known for his good luck, he liked visiting Foxwoods and playing the slot machines. He was a dedicated Patriots fan. Dick did everything on a grand scale and never missed an opportunity to help a person in need.

He proudly launched the Jaycees Charity Foundation in Dracut and was an active member of the Paul Center for Learning in Chelmsford. Above all, his family was most important and they will miss him dearly.

In addition to his loving wife, Dick is survived by his three children, Rebecca Ruel and her husband Brian, Andrea Spears and her husband Gregory, and Robert Gorton and his wife Noreen; 5 cherished grandchildren, Adam, Morgan, Danica, James, and Andrew; his OLDER sister, Shirley Coutu; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 11th from 5pm to 8pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 12th at 10am at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Paul Center for Learning and Recreation, 39 Concord Road, Chelmsford.
