Robert J. Duggan Jr., age 71, a resident of Salem, NH, passed away at Parkland Medical Center on Friday, August 25, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved father of three children with whom he enjoyed many years of memories.
He was born in Revere on October 9, 1951 and was the son of Patricia (McNamee) and the late Robert J. Duggan Sr.
Bob graduated from Georgetown High School, class of 1969, as well as Kentucky Wesleyan College and Middle Tennessee State University.
He was a physical education teacher in Lawrence and coached basketball and football at Georgetown High School, as well as football at Nashoba Valley Technical High School. He worked for years at both Foss Manufacturing Company and Polartec, where he held the position of plant manager before his retirement.
Bob coached his sons in various sports over the years and got the greatest joy from watching his grandchildren enjoy their own sports and activities. He also loved traveling, golfing, time at the beach, and the New Hampshire fall foliage.
Over the years, Bob enjoyed membership in the Haverhill Lodge of Elks #165, where he was affectionately known as “Huggie.” Here, he served as exalted ruler of the club three times during his 48 year membership and was particularly proud of his involvement in the Elks Hoop Shoot program.
Bob is survived by his three children: his daughter Alicia Mezzoni and her husband Christopher of Dracut MA, his son Robert Duggan III and his wife Amanda of Ashby, MA, and his son Christopher Duggan, with whom he lived in Salem, NH. He leaves behind four adoring grandchildren who were the absolute loves of his life: Chase and Evan Mezzoni and Jamison and Evelynn Duggan. Robert leaves his mother Patricia Duggan, his sisters: Kathleen Major and her husband Barry of Haverhill, MA; Patricia Martus and her husband Phillip of Greenfield, NH; and Carol Duggan and her husband Joseph Michaud of Haverhill, MA, and his brothers: Dennis Duggan and his wife Joanne of Merrimack, NH and Charles Duggan and his wife Eileen of Merrimack, NH. He also leaves behind many treasured cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Robert Duggan Sr. as well as his brothers Kevin Duggan and Michael Duggan.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 31st from 4pm to 8pm at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Dracut.
