Obituary for Robert E. "Bob" Lucius

Robert E. Lucius, 91, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary P. (Ploof) Lucius with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.

He was born in Springfield, VT on September 23, 1932, and was the son of the late Glendon and Vivian M. (Cross) Lucius.

Robert graduated from Springfield High School in 1951, where he played basketball for the Springfield Cosmos. He wed his high school sweetheart, Mary, in 1953 and served four years in the U.S. Navy, much of it in the Korean Theatre, and saw the world aboard the USS Wasp (CV-18). Following discharge and a move to Dracut, MA, he began a lengthy career with Raytheon that concluded with his retirement in 1993 as the Drafting Manager for Raytheon’s Missile Systems Division. Both he and Mary were avid travelers, visiting locations throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and enjoying many Caribbean cruises and vacations in Aruba; however, his greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for whom his love was boundless.

In addition to his loving wife, Robert leaves his children, Stephen and Colleen (Mottram) of Nashua, NH, Paul and Doreen (Sheldon) of Westminster, VT, Jeannine and George Roy of Dracut, MA, David and Robin Adair of Hopkinton, MA, Suzanne (Lucius) Murray of Keene, NH, and Robert Jr. and Casey (Miller) of Naples, FL. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren (Stephen Jr., Kevin, Andrew, Justine, Jennifer, Geoffrey, Zachary, Catherine, Victoria, Tyler, Jacqueline, Gareth, and Robert III) and 10 great-grandchildren (Hunter, Mason, Kellen, Gavin, Liv, Reagan, Georgia, Harper, Logan, and Theo). He is also survived by his sisters Kathleen Zella Cota and Judith Ann Merriam, both of Springfield, VT.

Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, David Glendon Lucius, Richard Wayne Lucius, and Bruce Lee Lucius.

Funeral services and interment will be held privately.
