Obituary for Sandra Elizabeth "Sandy" Wood

Sandra “Sandy” Elizabeth Wood, age 36, a lifelong resident of Dracut, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, December 24, 2022.

Born in Lowell on August 6, 1986, the daughter of John and Sherry (Valentine) Wood, Sandy was a devoted sister, loving mother, avid learner, prolific artist, and had insatiable enthusiasm for the world around her.

At a young age she harbored incredible talent for visual art, creating beautiful sketches and paintings and enjoying private art lessons in her spare time. She was also a gifted writer and speaker with an aptitude for eloquence. These facets were witnessed both in and out of school as she received high marks in all her classes while attending the Greater Lowell Technical High School for Painting & Design. As she grew, so did her passion for art and culture, developing an affinity for music, film, nature, and philosophical discussion. After high school, she attended Middlesex Community College where she graduated prestigiously as Salutatorian of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, which was her profession for many years.

As the oldest of six children, Sandy was a fierce protector of her younger sisters and brothers. Family meant a great deal to her and this was never more evident than when she gave birth to her first child. She relished in nurturing her children and passing down to them her love of the arts, sciences, and foreign culture, as well as the natural and spiritual world around them. She was a terrific advisor and was always ready to offer guidance with compassion and understanding.

Sandy loved spending quality time with those around her, whether they were blood relatives, good friends, or the acquaintance of an acquaintance. She was the embodiment of the idea that life should be spent finding joy with others where you can, from spending a week vacationing in the mountains of New Hampshire to having an unremarkable evening at home playing board games with family.

Her time on this earth will leave a permanent mark on those who knew her. Along with her parents, she will be deeply missed by her three children, Elizabeth, Jaiden, and Charlotte Borodowka; her siblings, April Bourdelais and her husband Justin of Wake Forest, NC, Chelsea McNamara and her two children, Natalie and Silas, of Dracut, Hayley Wood of Lowell, John Wood of Dracut, and Joseph Wood of Dracut; her grandmother and namesake, Sandra Valentine; her great-grandmother, Althea Alling; and her former partner and father to her children, Michael Borodowka. She will also be missed by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and good friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, December 31st from 2-5pm at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Funeral service and interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org or to the MSPCA by visiting www.mspca.org.
