Obituary for Vasilios “Bill” Stavrou

Vasilios “Bill” Stavrou, 47, a longtime Dracut resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lowell on March 15, 1974 and was the son of Gregory and Helen “Eleni” (Hondrou) Stavrou.

Bill was a 1992 graduate of St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, majoring in Accounting and French. Bill was an extremely dedicated and respected employee of Brookhaven at Lexington in Lexington, MA where he worked as a lead accountant for 10 years. Bill was a lifelong member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell. He loved being outdoors, had an interest in meteorology, and enjoyed the cold weather and skiing. He was also fluent in English, Greek and French. Bill was a very loving father of two beautiful children, Toula and Luca. An involved dad, he always helped with homework and school activities. They made many wonderful memories together including visiting the White Mountains, waterparks, and many other attractions. Bill loved traveling and visited Alaska, California, Montreal, Buffalo New York, Bar Harbor Maine, Paris France and Greece. He will be deeply missed by many beloved friends and family here and in Greece.

In addition to his parents, Vasilios leaves his loving children, Toula and Luca Stavrou of Dracut; his sister Lisa Skafidas and her daughter Malyna Skafidas of Dracut; his former wife Italia (Nicolosi) Stavrou; his aunts and uncles, Robert and Roxie Johnson of Concord, NH, George and Stella Demetri of Hollis, NH, and John and Vasiliki Hondros of Athens, Greece; and many cousins both here and in Greece.

Sadly, he is predeceased by his brother, Peter Stavrou who passed away in 2014, and his grandparents, Vasilios and Evangelia Stravrou.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 10th from 10am – 11am at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell, followed by his Funeral Service at 11am. Masks are kindly required. Interment in Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vasilios’s memory to The Vasilios Stavrou Children’s Fund, Lowell Five Bank, 34 John Street, Lowell, MA 01853.
